Can a Power Station Run a Space Heater?

Yes, but not for long. A 1,500 W space heater drains a 2 kWh station in about an hour. Here is the math, and better ways to stay warm.

Short answer

Any station with 1,500 W or more of output can run a standard space heater. Battery capacity is the problem: heat takes a lot of energy. Even a 5 kWh station runs a heater on high for under 3 hours. Use it to take the chill off one small room, not to heat a house.

A heater on a thermostat cycles on and off, so in a small, closed room the average can drop well below its rating. The last column assumes the heater runs about half the time on low.

Bottom line

A power station is great for keeping the furnace blower, fridge and lights on. It is a poor heat source on its own. For long winter outages, see our generator vs power station guide.
